You probably already have dental coverage
Good news: most full-time students in Ontario pay for a health and dental plan through their student association. The fee is part of what you pay each term, so unless you opted out, you are covered. The plan year runs from 1 September to 31 August, which means it keeps working for you through the summer.
Many of these plans are administered by Alumo, which was called Studentcare until recently. If your association's health plan website ends in alumo.ca, this page is for you.

What the Alumo network saving means
Carlton Dental is a member of the Alumo dental network. If you are on an Alumo plan, two things add together to help you: your plan pays its share of the fee, and we take a set amount off what is left.
- Preventive care, meaning examinations, x-rays, cleanings, scaling, polishing and fluoride: 30 per cent of the fee guide comes off.
- Everything else, including fillings, root canal treatment, extractions and crowns: 20 per cent comes off.
For many plans that leaves nothing to pay for a check-up and cleaning. The saving applies even to treatment your plan does not pay toward. It never adds up to more than the whole fee.
Plans administered by Alumo, 2026-27 plan year
Further down this page you will find a section for each school, with a table for every plan it offers: the yearly limit, and for each kind of treatment what the plan pays, what the network saving takes off, and what is left for you. 13 of the 21 plans listed are administered by Alumo.
The tables show what each association publishes for the plan year. What a plan pays changes from year to year, so we will check your own plan before any treatment and give you the figures in writing.
Other student plans
If your school is not on the Alumo list, we are still glad to help. We also bill other student plans directly, including those at University of Toronto Mississauga, University of Toronto Scarborough, University of Toronto part-time undergraduate, York and Glendon, York graduate, Queen's, McMaster, Sheridan. The Alumo network saving applies only to plans Alumo administers, but everything else on this page does.
What to bring
- Your student card.
- Your plan details. Your association's health plan website shows your member ID, or lets you download a card.
- A list of any medications you take, if you can.
A first visit is an examination, usually with a cleaning. If something needs treating, we will tell you your share before you decide. Our fees page explains how estimates work.
